The problem I am addressing is in schools there is a lack of recognition for Islamic holidays. In schools in America, the students only get Christian holidays off such as Christmas and Good Friday. This is unfair to kids who celebrate Islamic holiday, because they should also be able to have a day off on their holidays to celebrate. Islam is one of the fastest growing religions in the world, with over 4 million Muslims in America, and has two main holidays which are Ramadan and Eid.
The most important Islamic holiday is Ramadan and it is celebrated for a month, where Muslims fast from sunrise to sunset for 30 days. According to the BBC, Ramadan is the celebration of when the verses of the Qur'an were shown to Prophet Muhammad. This holiday could cause Muslim students to have to miss days of school, while Christian students already have the day off for their holidays. This is unfair to Muslim students because it decreases the amount of days they can have off or miss important things in school. An example could be if a student has a test the day of an Islamic Holiday, they would have to miss the test. The school could fix this by allowing some days in the month of Ramadan to be a day off.

According to Primary Homework Help the second most important Islamic holiday is Eid. Eid is the festival for the first day after Ramadan, which last 3 days to celebrate with family and friends. On these days its important to create family and community bonds, and the students can not do that at school, so they have to miss some days of school. Once again, this is unfair to the student, and while celebrating their holiday they could be missing out of important instructions in a classroom. To fix this issue, I would recommend that the school adds some Islamic holidays to the school calendar. This would allow Muslim students to be able to celebrate the holiday while not missing out on school work. The schools should be able to respect other religions holidays, and allow Islam holidays be days off.
