South African Drought Affects Millions

Summary: The challenge is South Africa was going through a horrible drought that caused 54 million people to not be able to access water in 2015. 5 of the 9 Provinces in South Africa have been considered “disaster zones” caused by this drought. People tried to deliver water by the local municipality, then the government delivered them water. Finally many South African companies donated water to help the people and their crops. The water delivered by the local municipalities was “muddy” and made many children sick, causing the South Africans to not be able to drink water. Then the government delivered water in tanks to the provinces in need, and this helped extremely well. Lastly, many South African companies donated water tanks which helped the people and their crops.

Analysis: I disagree with how the local municipalities dealt with the drought because by giving the people “muddy” water it really hurt them. The local municipalities took advantage of the people in South Africa who were suffering, making it seem like the local municipalities were doing a good thing. I believe they should just not have delivered the water at all because all it did was hurt the people, or they could have donated money to the government or South African companies so they could get clean water. The way they tried to help them really hurt the people, so I disagree with how the local municipalities dealt with it.

Question:What do you think the government in South Africa should do about the water system to prevent drought problems?
