France's Ban on Islamic Clothing Has Backfired

Why do Muslim women wear a hijab?     France is not allowing their Islamic citizens to wear what they want by banning Hijabs and the full face veils, Niqabs and Burqas to encourage integration into French society but it has faced economical, educational, and ethical backlash. Hijabs are clothings Muslim women wear in public and cover the entire body except hands, face and feet. Niqabs are similar to Hijabs but they also cover the face and only show the eyes. Burqas are Niqabs but the eyes are covered with a thin mesh to see out of.

In France, separation of religion and state is seen differently than the US, they don't want people to express faith much outside of home and religious sites but rather promote a national identity and integrate with French society. This lead them to unreasonably ban Muslim clothing which is a restriction of religious freedom and wouldn't pass in the United States as it would be unconstitutional and violate the 1st Amendment. Aside from the moral wrong, it did not impact Muslims like they intended.  A study in American Political Science Review found that it significantly decreased the chance of Muslim girls completing secondary education and they would rather leave school than leave home without their Hijab. They were also found to be more likely to repeat a grade. These often lead to negative economic results as well. They were more likely to be unemployed and less likely to find a job. This law has not done its job to encourage integration and has led to more separation and it is also morally wrong.
