The problem I'm addressing is Islamic Holidays in schools and workplaces across America. I believe that schools and workplaces should allow Muslims to have the day off for their holidays. Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world and there are over 4 million Muslims across America.
Ramadan is a holy month for Muslims around the world. In Ramadan Muslims fast from sunrise until sunset for 30 days. It is celebrated as the month during which Prophet Muhammad received the first revelations of the Quran. The Quran is the noble book in Islam in which it talks about guidance and how to spend your life with the best manner. Muslims perform Ramadan because it teaches patience, discipline, self control, sacrifice, and empathy for the less fortunate. After Ramadan Eid- Al Fitr is celebrated because of the completion of Ramadan. On Eid Al- Fitr Muslims visit a Mosque to pray and give charity.
There are 5 pillars in Islam and every Muslim is obligated to do them. The first pillar is to announce and believe that there is only God and Prophet Muhammad is his messenger. The second pillar is to pray 5 times a day. The third pillar is to fast in the month of Ramadan. The fourth pillar is to give charity (if you are able to). The fifth pillar is to perform Hajj once in your lifetime. After completing Hajj Muslims celebrate Eid-Al Adha. On Eid-Al Adha Muslims visit a mosque to pray followed by visiting families and giving gifts.
In conclusion I believe public schools and workplaces should allow Muslims to have a day off on Eid-Al Adha and Eid Al-Fitr because these holidays are very important and special to Muslims.
