African Harvard Graduate Gives Back

 Summary

Mac Sarbah was once one of the many kids who had to face many challenges going to school and even after graduating. He says that it is because of the support form teachers, family, and friends, that he was able to graduate from Harvard, Columbia and Cambridge Universities. After graduating he decided to give back to the kids in Africa who are growing up the same way he did, so he launched a program in order to support kids to pursue what they want and help the major unemployment issue kids in Africa face after graduating.

Analysis

I agree and I am proud of what he did because as I was researching about Africa, and Ghana in particular, I saw so much about how one of their biggest issues is kids education and youth unemployment. I think this program can really help all those kids in Africa who want  to pursue their dreams in whatever field they want. I like that despite all the hardships he faced as he was growing up, he was able to become so successful and he also gave back to help make the kids just as successful.

Discussion Question

What do you think of Sarbah’s plan to help the major unemployment issue? What else do you think people can do to help this issue?

  1. I think a huge way to help these kids, is advocating for them. Awareness of these issues in Africa will raise inspiration to help kids be just as successful as kids in other countries. It is an amazing achievement that someone who grew up in struggle was able to succeed in a couple of the most rigorous education programs in the world. Sarbah will also be an endorser to help create a more stable education system and financial economy that is in support of their futures, not just the present.

  2. I think his plan was very good. Helping children who were going through the same thing as him or to prevent them from going through the same thing as him is very nice because he knows how hard it is and doesn't want others to have to go through it too. I also think it was kind of him to give back to the community that helped him because without them, he wouldn't be who is now or where he is now.

  4. I think people could help with this issue by just being more aware of it, and going to fundraisers to support Africa, and their school system.

  5. I think giving kids access to a fair, well-funded education can help with the unemployment issue. If students don't get the education they need in the beginning, finding jobs later on will be harder.

  6. I think Sarbuh's plan on helping kids is great! As generations continue to grow and mature they need those resources to get them to good places and this program is focus based on just that!
