Title: Nigeria’s Covid-19 Kit Solution

Summary: Nigeria was facing a problem of not having enough coronavirus testing kits for their population. This problem was due to hospitals refusing to see patients during the pandemic and the lack of testing facilities across the country. This caused people to not get tested for corona and it resulted in a spike in cases. Now Nigeria has a total of 62,000 cases. Scientists in Nigeria began to make their own testing kits. These testing kits were faster, cheaper, and more efficient than the regular testing kits. The new diagnostic test will cost less than 25$ and they can be used with mobile machines that require very minimal training.

Analysis:

  • Nigeria had a problem with not having enough testing kits for their massive population.

  • Nigeria solved this problem by creating cheaper and more effective kits

  • It is showing us that Nigeria doesn’t need to depend on other countries for help

  • Nigeria is capable of solving their problems on their own and being successful

Discussion questions

  1. What does this solution tell us about Nigeria?

  2. Why didn’t Nigeria reach out to other countries for help with this problem?

  3. How do you think this new kit will make people in Nigeria feel?

  1. In response to your third discussion question, I believe that these new and improved testing kits will possibly anger/frustrate the Nigerian citizens as this will allow them to realize that they could have used these kits in the first place and wouldn't have their spiking number of Coronavirus cases now.

  2. In response to the first discussion question, I think it shows how Nigeria is more advanced in medical technology. This is because they were able to create a faster and cheaper way to test for corona virus. Finally the most important thing is that the idea worked.

  3. This solution tells us that Nigeria is a lot more caught up in technology than we thought of. Also it is really good that it worked instead of it not working and redoing it again.

  4. In response to your third discussion question, I think that the Nigerians will feel proud that they made a better, more effective kit then the regular ones. I also think they will be frustrated that other countries didn't step in to help but relieved that they finally have a testing kit.

  5. Responding to your third question, I believe that people who live in Nigeria will begin to feel less worried both physically and socially. Physically they will feel like less people will spread the virus and they can test themselves easier making them safer. Socially they will feel better because they wont have to pay lots of money for test kits if they in fact get the virus.
