The article produced by Rising Africa exclaims that in Nigeria, Corona virus testing has not been easy to come across as Nigeria currently imports test kits from China. This has not been in their best interest as they have the largest African country with a population of 200 million, but have only tested 500,000. It is also very hard to get those tests to everyone who needs them. However, Nigerian scientists have created an efficient test kit that will help Nigeria, and could also expand to help the world.
The reason these test kits are so efficient is because of their cost and speed, as well as some other factors. The article explains that these new kits can be cheaper than $25 and can also be operated by someone with little training. The results are also produced in under 40 minutes. As you can see, the advantages of these kits will help test more of Nigeria's population, as they will be easier to access, use, and will help slow the spread of the virus in Nigeria.
Analysis
I feel that this article and what it shows is very important, especially in a rough time now where hope is needed the most. Because of Africa's past involving colonialism, I think that it would be hard to afford and receive medical aid because they might not be able to get healthcare or vast sums of money as easy as someone else. The Corona virus may have made this issue worse as more and more people need expensive medical aid. However I really believe these efficient test kits will help not only save lives in Africa but help people financially as well.
Question
How do you think these test kits will help or worsen Nigeria's current testing situation?

I think these test kits will help because it will speed up the process of testing and it will make the 4% of people tested out of the 200 million go by sooner so its not that much of a concern anymore.
ReplyDeleteI think these kits will help Nigerias current testing situation due to it being cheaper and faster than most.
