A way to help kids with Judaism dietary restrictions

The challenge we have come across at Hinsdale Central is there is not enough food for people who have Judaism food restrictions. Many kids are complaining about the food options being limited since they have to follow their religions rules. Kids who are follow the practices of Judaism have to also listen to a certain amount of food laws put in place that affect the variety of food they can eat.

There are many food restrictions that Judaism people have to follow. For many Judaism kids it may be very hard to eat the meal the school provides. One of their laws is they can not eat meat with dairy or vice-versa. Most of the school meals come with meat and dairy on the same plate. Also going along with this, the utensils used to serve the meat must not come in contact with any dairy, or they can not eat whats on their plate. This restricts the amount of food these certain kids will be able to eat per meal because they are not allowed to eat any school meals containing dairy and meat together. Another well known meal item at school is salads. However this can pose as a difficult food to eat for people who follow the Judaism food laws. According to Judaism Dietary Laws "Leafy vegetables like lettuce and herbs and flowery vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower are particularly prone to bugs and should be inspected carefully." this could also restrict them from eating salads which can be a beneficial food to a lunch meal. Lastly a difficult they might also have is not being able to eat any animals served. All though they may be able to eat animals, it is a strict rule of Judaism that the animal must be killed in accordance with Jewish law. It is very difficult to know where and how the animals are killed and it poses as a challenge for the Judaism kids when lunch time comes around.

With that being said there is still many ways food can be made for Judaism kids in order to celebrate a special holiday. there is a dessert called honey cake that Jews can have. this cake is used to celebrate many different occasions and follows all the Judaism dietary restrictions. Another sweet that is made a lot is the Jewish apple cake. these cakes also have pretty common ingredients, which makes the cakes easier to make.

Overall, there is many foods Jews can eat, the food just has to be prepared in the correct way and people have to consider the Jewish dietary restrictions. A few ways to help kids with these restrictions at school, is to always make a non meat and non animal food option since their laws make it difficult for them to eat animals. Another way to help is to use different utensils for meat and dairy since their utensils must also be kosher. Lastly, a plan to help the Jewish kids would be to survey them. They could tell you what food they can eat and make it easier for the cooking process.
