As requested by the students attending Hinsdale Central High School, it is strongly recommended that the Quest food services of HCHS amend their food options and expand their menu. Due to Quest’s lack of knowledge on the dietary restrictions and guidelines on the Islamic religion, they have failed to comply with the creation of a menu that is inclusive to all students attending. Although Islam does have one of the strictest diets and makes up a very high percentage of the students, this is not exclusive to only the Islamic religion. Other religions are included in this advocation as well. This demand advocate for a high percentage of students with dietary restrictions on account of their religion, and requires an immediate alteration.
The Quest food services are recommended to include a menu option that is able to act in accordance with the Islamic diet. The Haram or forbidden foods of the Islamic diet are mentioned by the author Saad Fayed from the website article, "What is Halal Food?" Haram foods are forbidden by the guidelines given in the Quran, the sacred Islamic text, which provides specific way animals must be slaughtered, along with the given inability to eat things such as pork, blood, alcohol, and several more Haram foods.
On the contrary, the Halal foods, popularly known as Middle Eastern cuisine, are the foods opposite to the Haram foods, which are all foods permitted to eat by the Quran. In order to abide by any dietary guidelines that a good portion of HCHS students follow, a lunch menu option should be created for those students by locating Halal foods and purchasing from specific religious distributors.
